Though it had its world premiere nearly a year ago at Sundance Film Festival, Lee Isaac Chung‘s critically-acclaimed film Minari has yet to have a full release. The film, which follows a Korean family living in Arkansas in the 1980s, has already garnered awards from the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards and others. And the A24 film is already facing issues at the Golden Globes — even though it’s an American film, it’ll be entered in the Foreign Language category, making it ineligible for the Best Picture categories.
With actors Steven Yeun and Youn Yuh-jung in talks for nominations at the major awards shows, the release of Minari is long-awaited. Wondering when it’ll be available to rent or stream? You’re not alone. Here’s everything you need to know about A24’s new movie:
What is Minari about?
Minari follows a Korean family that moves out to a farm in Arkansas in search of their own American Dream. Though their world is already turned upside-down, everything becomes even more awry with the arrival of the family’s foul-mouthed grandmother.
Minari release date: When does Minari come out?
Though it’s made rounds in this year’s digital film festival circuit, Minari will finally get a limited theatrical release on February 12, 2021. The film will receive a wider rollout on March 15, 2021. Minari also had its awards-qualifying run in New York and Los Angeles in early December in theaters.
Minari: Where to watch on February 12
The first limited release will be in-theaters only — meaning you won’t be able to rent, purchase, or stream at home anywhere. The list of theaters showing Minari in February has yet to be released.
Will there be a Minari streaming release?
Probably, but not one coming soon. Minari‘s production company, A24, also debuted its film First Cow on VOD and eventually on Showtime. There’s hope for a Minari digital release!
Minari: Watch online premiere date
We’re out of luck, for now. There’s no digital release date for Minari at the moment. You’ll have to wait or take a risky venture out to the theater if you want to watch the film.
Minari cast: Steven Yeun, Yeri Han, Youn Yuh-jung and more
Steven Yeun has been lauded as the lead of Minari, playing patriarch Jacob. Soonja, the lovable grandmother of the family, is played by Youn Yuh-jung. Minari also features performances by Yeri Han, Alan S. Kim, Noel Cho, and Will Patton. The film is executive produced by Brad Pitt.
